An area of inquiry

Human Systems

What happens between people — and what happens to us because of it.

I write about the systems humans create together: families, relationships, workplaces, churches, communities and institutions. How cultures form. How patterns repeat. How roles develop. How dysfunction sustains itself. How belonging shapes us. And just as importantly, what happens to the individual inside those systems — and how we find our way back to ourselves.

This isn’t theory for its own sake. It comes from a counsellor’s ear, a social scientist’s curiosity, and decades of watching people in rooms where the unwritten rules do most of the work. Maps, in other words, for the places we get lost together.

The movement of the work

One body of work, one line of thought

Read them in any order — but together they move from the system, to the pattern, to the loop, to the self, to what we build together.

Where this comes from

Not a discipline I claim. A question I keep following.

Human Systems is my own body of work — grounded in counselling practice, social-science curiosity, writing and a very long habit of watching how people behave in groups. I’m not offering a diagnosis of difficult people. I’m offering language for what is happening between us, so that belonging costs less than it usually does.
