Speaking & media
Conversations worth having
Sharon speaks and takes part in interviews on the themes running through her books: how communities form, what culture does to belonging, where informal power really sits, and how people are held or quietly lost by the systems around them. Warm, curious, occasionally funny, never tidy.
Topics
Healthy communities & how cultures form
What makes a community good to belong to, how a culture assembles itself almost by accident, and the inherited rules nobody remembers agreeing to.
Culture & belonging
The difference between belonging and blending in — and what a community forfeits when it only welcomes the manageable version of a person.
Human systems & relational dynamics
The patterns that repeat across families, churches, charities and workplaces: feedback loops, unspoken roles, and how systems shape people who then reshape the system.
Informal power, inclusion & exclusion
Where influence actually sits when the org chart says otherwise, who quietly gets missed, and how exclusion gets normalised without anyone deciding to be unkind.
Foundational grief & structural change
The grief that has no funeral, and what happens to people when a trusted structure — a church, a team, a family, an institution — changes shape.
Reflective safeguarding & dignity
Protecting people well in ordinary decisions, and the reflective practice that keeps organisations honest rather than merely compliant.
Being human without becoming less weird
Faith, doubt, creativity and eccentricity — why the odd ones matter, and what a culture loses when it files down everybody's edges.

Short bio (50 words)

Long bio (150 words)
Sharon Mackenzie is an author, writer and social observer. Her books examine how human beings gather: how cultures form, what makes a community healthy, how belonging differs from fitting in, where informal power sits, why some grief is never named, and how dignity is protected or lost in ordinary decisions. Her work sits at an unusual junction of social science curiosity, decades of lived observation, counselling, chaplaincy and safeguarding practice, and a faith she holds with both hands open. She writes with warmth, humour and a low tolerance for tidy answers, and speaks widely with churches, charities and community organisations trying to build something healthier than what they inherited. Her books and frameworks are published by Spirit Led Counselling.
